Tsipras: I will not resign

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated that he will not resign despite strong pressure to introduce even stricter austerity measures in Greece and open dissatisfaction from some members of his cabinet and the ruling Syriza party, reports the Patria News Agency.

In an interview with the state Greek television ERT, Tsipras sharply criticized the agreement with international creditors on the third aid package in exchange for even stricter austerity measures, but emphasized that it is the best Greece could get at this moment, reported the AP agency.

"The measures imposed on us are not rational. We faced harsh stances from our partners, who were inclined to punish us. However, the agreement still offers a way out of the crisis," stated the Greek Prime Minister.

Eurozone leaders and representatives of Greece reached an agreement on the third package of international financial assistance to Athens on Monday, after marathon negotiations, worth around 86 billion euros, which will be approved under strict conditions, including austerity measures, fiscal and other reforms.

Tsipras took responsibility for accepting these strict conditions in exchange for aid, despite not believing in many of the draconian measures that the aid package requires himself.
