Chetnik Movement Registered in Montenegro as Well

For more than a year and a half, a debate has been ongoing in Montenegro about the possible registration of the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement. This debate culminated on April 18 this year with the final registration of this movement as a citizens' association, which has already been done in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, NAP reports. 

In Montenegro, this is hardly reported in the media. This fact has only been published in recent days. SDP MP in the Parliament of Montenegro, Džavid Šabović, said that the registration of this movement by the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro, headed by Duško Marković, means that all the crimes of this movement from World War II become legal and that this move further instills fear among minority peoples in the country.      

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there have been no reactions to this fact so far. Only the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada issued a statement regarding the legalization of the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement in Montenegro. The statement, among other things, says:

“The Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement is fascist, collaborationist, treacherous, and criminal. This movement is a continuation of the Serbian nationalist ideology, politics, and practice that has had its continuity for a full 200 years and on whose foundations genocide was again committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The legalization of the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement in Montenegro is a sign of the continuous, terrorist, fascist activity of a criminal organization whose goal is the liquidation of Bosniaks as a people and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state. The fact that the political establishment of Montenegro legalizes the activity of such a criminal organization with fascist goals is a sign that the Montenegrin government actually rests on that movement, its ideology, goals, and practice.

The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada most strongly condemns the legalization of the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement, whose registration was approved by an official decision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Montenegro on April 18, 2016. The legalization of the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement in Montenegro, a country that was one of the aggressors and perpetrators of genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, represents yet another in a series of Montenegrin state-building attacks on truth and justice, on man and civilization, on anti-fascism, on the Idea of Bosnia and the Bosnian spirit,” the statement of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada reads, as reported by NAP.
