Four people die in Tuzla Canton from complications caused by flu

TUZLA, (Patria) - Four people have died in the past few days from seasonal flu caused by type A, B and H1N1 viruses, i.e. swine flu. This was confirmed today at an emergency press conference of the Institute for Public Health of Tuzla Canton.

The first death was recorded on February 19, when a younger female person died from complications of swine flu, i.e. H1N1 flu.

In all four deceased persons, death occurred after complications caused by the flu with their previous chronic diseases.

Maida Mulić, director of the Institute for Public Health of Tuzla Canton, said that the epidemiological situation is uncertain, as evidenced by the fact that all four persons are from different municipalities in Tuzla Canton. The situation is further complicated by the unfavorable epidemiological picture with the measles virus in neighboring Serbia.

In Tuzla Canton, no increase in the number of patients has been recorded compared to the previous year.

Certain measures were already taken two months ago, when the visiting regime at the University Clinical Center was reduced. All four deceased persons were hospitalized at the University Clinical Center. Currently, 15 patients are hospitalized at the University Clinical Center, showing signs of one of these flu strains.

The deceased persons lived in Tuzla, Kladanj, Živinice and Banovići.
