Congratulations from BiH Officials: 25 Years of Independence of the State of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Numerous BiH officials have sent congratulations on the occasion of March 1, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ismir Jusko, on the occasion of BiH Independence Day, sent a congratulatory message to BiH citizens in the country and around the world, to all those who truly love Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"On this day, 25 years ago, Bosnia and Herzegovina, by the expressed will of the vast majority of its citizens, became an independent and sovereign state. We should all continue to build Bosnia and Herzegovina with love and pride as a country of equal peoples and citizens, a country progressing on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration.

To all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on behalf of the Ministry and my own behalf, I proudly congratulate Independence Day," states the congratulatory message from Minister Jusko.

"Tomorrow marks 25 years since the day when citizens decided on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They decided they wanted to live in an independent and indivisible BiH, and most importantly, they wanted to live in a civic BiH. Unfortunately, today we are not on the path towards a civic state in the way it was decided 25 years ago, but we must continue to strive to change that. We must persevere in the fight for a country where all citizens will have equal rights and a better life. I am sure they also want such a country, not the kind that certain political elites are 'serving' us. That is what we should strive for and respect the voice of the people who, precisely 25 years ago, said what they want – they want peace, freedom, independence, and equality.

To the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I wish a happy Independence Day, with the wish that our country remains sovereign and independent with a more prosperous future for all."

Bosnia and Herzegovina was not created in Dayton. The Dayton Peace Agreement confirmed the continuity of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state, as stated in our Constitution. These are historical and legal facts. Our country has a thousand-year tradition and throughout history has gone through a difficult path towards the establishment of an independent and modern state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and March 1 represents one of the most important dates on that path. Therefore, I extend sincere congratulations to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of BiH Independence Day, and I believe this should be a holiday for all peoples and citizens in our country.

Those who dispute March 1 want to deny their own state, as well as internationally recognized standards and norms. The majority of countries, as well as the UN, EU, United States, Russian Federation, China, and other leading countries of the modern world, recognized independent Bosnia and Herzegovina precisely thanks to that March 1 and the referendum held in 1992. Only an institutionally strong Bosnia and Herzegovina can protect all peoples and citizens in this country; everything else is a delusion, and the moves of current political leaders are precisely contributing to destabilization and an uncertain future. We all need a peaceful and stable state.

We must not forget the brave patriots who, in the most difficult circumstances, defended and protected Bosnia and Herzegovina and who stood behind the values voted for in the 1992 referendum. The struggle for the state will continue. Resistance to one's own state will still exist. I am convinced that we will mature as a society, and that the European Union, NATO, and the standards required by these associations are a good path towards institutional strengthening of the state, but also a better standard of living for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Once again, happy March 1, Independence Day of the country to which we all belong.
