Cesilie Carlton and Gary Hunt win diving from the Old Bridge in Mostar

The third competition of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in our country met expectations. In front of 17,000 spectators, the world's best divers put on a top-class sports spectacle and demonstrated the magic of diving, writes Patria News Agency.

At the end of this memorable day, Cesilie Carlton and Gary Hunt emerged as the new king and queen of the Old Bridge.

By the start of the competition, the beach below the Old Bridge was flooded by a river of 17,000 spectators. Every available space from which the dives could be watched was filled: surrounding restaurants and cafes, terraces and rooftops, the Lučki Bridge, the rocks along the Neretva, and the Neretva itself – with boats full of spectators. In addition to the people of Mostar and numerous tourists, a large number of spectators from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina also arrived in the city on the Neretva.

Of course, it turned out they had every good reason to come. Over two hours of 'out-of-this-world' dives and incredible acrobatics, a great atmosphere, and a passionate crowd, a dramatic competition full of twists and turns – all the conditions were met for an event to be called a memorable spectacle.

In the men's competition, six-time champion Gary Hunt finally managed to triumph in Mostar on his third attempt. Second was Steven LoBue (USA), while the third place was a big surprise from the 22-year-old diver from Russia, Nikita Fedotov, who was making his debut in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

In the women's competition, the victory went to American Cesilie Carlton, who was second in Mostar last year. She was followed by Helena Merten (Australia) in second place and Anna Bader (Germany) in third. This outcome in Mostar unexpectedly introduced uncertainty into the women's championship.

Namely, the current champion, Australian Rhiannan Iffland, had to miss the competition due to an injury sustained in training on Friday. Instead of using her significant points lead to secure the title in Mostar, several divers have now joined her in the race for the title, and everything will be decided at the final stop of the season, at the end of October in Chile.

All in all, everyone at the Old Bridge was once again up to the task: the divers, the phenomenal audience in Mostar, and the entire organization of this fantastic competition. 

This is definitely the kind of event that puts our country on the world map and showcases it in the best possible light.
