Cerić's initiative is a blow to "partocracy" that has not brought much to citizens!

The practice of modern democratic societies and states is that all those elected as head of state leave or freeze their party functions, stated for BH news agency Patria (NAP) Zijad Bećirović, director of the International Institute for Middle Eastern and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) from Ljubljana.

In this way, he commented on the initiative of dr. Mustafa Cerić, an independent candidate for a member of the BiH Presidency, to depoliticize the Presidency, i.e., for its members to renounce their party positions.

- The intention of such a move is that the newly elected head of state is not a party slave but represents and works in the best interest of all citizens of their country - says Bećirović.  

Unfortunately, he adds, when it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina, there have been no examples so far of any elected member of the BiH Presidency leaving their political party or freezing their membership in that party. Some members of the BiH Presidency even founded their own political parties during their mandate.

- Dr. Mustafa Cerić's initiative represents a new quality compared to the previous practice. We consider dr. Cerić's initiative welcome, and certainly, if this initiative turns into practice, it can represent a significant step forward in the work of the BiH Presidency in the coming period - he points out.

However, as he says, we are aware of the fact that most political parties will boycott this initiative.

- This initiative by dr. Cerić directly threatens their "partocracy", which has proven to be in many ways directed against the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina - concludes Bećirović.
