(Patria) - The central ceremony marking the 33rd anniversary of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the 20th anniversary of the 2nd Infantry (Ranger) Regiment was held today at the Kosovo barracks in Ustikolina, and this event was attended by high officials of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of civilian authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, cantons and municipalities, representatives of international military organizations, veterans' organizations and other guests.

"We are not afraid of the challenges ahead. We are trained and committed to preserving and ensuring peace," said Brigadier Faruk Ganić, commander of the 2nd Infantry (Ranger) Regiment.

Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zukan Helez emphasized that the idea and legacy of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina should serve as a guide on how to defend and preserve Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He added that his goal, during his term as Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is to strengthen the forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, improve capacities, and modernize processes in order to be ready to confront anyone who attacks the sovereignty, territorial integrity and statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

April 15 is celebrated as the Day of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, commemorating the date when it was formed in 1992. The Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the official armed force of the internationally recognized and sovereign state of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It was formed from seven corps covering the regions: Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica, Travnik, Mostar, the region of the present-day Una-Sana Canton and the area of Konjic and its surroundings.

On the occasion of marking this date, numerous delegations paid tribute and laid flowers at the central memorial "Goražde, city of heroes, to its defenders" and at the monument to the murdered children of Goražde in the period 1992-1995.

The program will continue with a ceremonial academy of the Government of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton Goražde at the Goražde Cultural Center at 3:00 PM, as well as a round table "The Heroism of Bosnian Women" organized by the Association of Female Members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
