Slovenian Aleksander Čeferin was elected today at the UEFA congress in Athens as the new president of the European football governing body, reports the BiH news agency Patria.
55 UEFA member countries had the right to vote, and Čeferin won ahead of the president of the Dutch FA, Michael van Praag, receiving the support of 42 national associations.
Aleksander Čeferin was born on October 13, 1967. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana. As an employee of a family law firm, he represented professional athletes and clubs. He was also a member of the Executive Board of KMN Svea Lesna Litija, one of the most successful futsal clubs in Slovenia, as well as a member of NK Olimpija from Ljubljana.
He was first elected president of the FA of Slovenia in 2011, and in February 2015, he received a new mandate for that position.
The Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina also gave its vote to Čeferin today, with whom we have an exceptionally friendly relationship.
The delegation of the FA of BiH, consisting of Elvedin Begić, Ivan Beus, and Jasmin Baković, was among the first to congratulate the new UEFA president.
