CB BiH Withdraws from Circulation 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM Banknotes Issued from 1998 to 2009

(Patria) - The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina is withdrawing from circulation convertible mark banknotes in denominations of 10
KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM issued in the period from 1998 to 2009, as follows:

 Denominations 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM with the year of issue 1998;
 Denominations 50 KM and 100 KM with the year of issue 2002;
 Denominations 50 KM and 100 KM with the year of issue 2007;
 Denominations 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM with the year of issue 2008;
 Denomination 50 KM with the year of issue 2009.

Timeline for the withdrawal of banknotes from circulation:

Convertible mark banknotes in denominations of 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM issued in the period from 1998 to 2009 can be used freely for payments in transactions until December 31, 2024.

Starting from January 1, 2025, the aforementioned issues of KM banknotes will cease to be legal tender and cannot be accepted in transactions for settling any obligations, and will be subject exclusively to the exchange process as banknotes withdrawn from circulation.

The exchange of banknotes, after they cease to be legal tender, will be carried out in 2025 by
commercial banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After the expiration of the exchange period at commercial banks, the exchange will be carried out by the Central Bank of BiH within a period
of 10 years, starting from January 1, 2026, until December 31, 2035.

Banknotes remaining in circulation:

Banknotes in denominations of 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM from the issues of 2012, 2017, 2019 and 2024, as well as both issues of the 200 KM denomination banknotes, remain in circulation and are not subject to the withdrawal process.

Banknotes in denominations of 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM that will remain in circulation have a vertical micro-optic security thread "Motion™" whose display can be seen here.

Banknotes being withdrawn from circulation do not have this security feature, and based on this easily noticeable visual difference, it can be easily determined whether it is an issue that will remain in circulation or an issue that will cease to be
legal tender as of December 31, 2024.

The withdrawal of banknotes in denominations of 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM issued in the period from 1998
to 2009 will ensure the following:

 The quality level of banknotes in circulation will be increased, as the banknotes being withdrawn from circulation will be replaced with new, high-quality banknotes.
 Only banknotes with identical and improved anti-counterfeiting protection will remain in circulation, which will facilitate authenticity verification for the public, persons performing manual processing of banknotes, as well as on devices for receiving and processing banknotes.
