Čavara: Independence Day is a historic event, we need more compromise

On the occasion of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Independence Day, the President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Marinko Čavara, emphasized the significance of the Referendum on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which the peoples and citizens of BiH expressed their commitment to an independent BiH, a state of equal peoples and equal citizens, a state we still strive for today, reports the Croatian Media Service.

„Twenty-nine years ago, the Referendum on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held, in which the peoples and citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by answering the referendum question: „Are you in favor of a sovereign and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, a state of equal citizens, the peoples of BiH – Muslims, Serbs, Croats and members of other peoples living in it?“, decided that Bosnia and Herzegovina should be an independent, free and internationally recognized state of equal constituent peoples and equal citizens living in it.

Through the Referendum on independence, Bosnia and Herzegovina left the Yugoslav state union, and the opportunity was provided for all peoples and citizens in BiH to freely express their will about the future of BiH in a democratic manner.

The significance of the Referendum is also reflected in the fact that the peoples of BiH expressed their commitment to an independent BiH, a state of equal peoples and equal citizens, a state we still strive for today.

Unfortunately, more agreements and compromises are necessary for BiH to be a state in which every constituent people and every citizen can exercise the rights that belong to them“, said the President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
