Čanak: Everything done in the nineties led to the genocide in Srebrenica

(Patria) - Harsh words and threats were exchanged between Nenad Čanak and Vojislav Šešelj last night on Pink's show "Hit tvit" - "pig", "idiot", "criminal". Čanak said that he came to the show with Šešelj to point out to him that his freedom is a sign of the judiciary's weakness. For N1, the leader of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina, Nenad Čanak, spoke about the radical Vojislav Šešelj, and the events in Montenegro, which he linked to Russian goals.

Čanak said that Šešelj's actions were "ultimately a crime against humanity".

"All that was done in the nineties ultimately led to the genocide in Srebrenica and a series of other terrible crimes," he said, adding that Šešelj's presence on the political scene is not harmless:

"It is very easy to convince people who always readily believe what they want to believe, that the state is not guilty of anything, that others are to blame. Šešelj is a master of manipulation, selling fog, talking about the Hague Tribunal being a court for Serbs - these are stories that can easily be appealing, especially to young people who did not witness it. Šešelj is a evil that must be eradicated, and not only him. There are a number of others who are the Šešelj for millennials, such as the leader of this neo-fascist group Dveri, Boško Obradović," reports N1.

He also commented on the relationship between Vojislav Šešelj and Aleksandar Vučić, the current president of Serbia:

"Aleksandar Vučić was a prominent member of the Serbian Radical Party for a long time, and his evolution from then until today is obvious. In any case, he certainly has a personal relationship with Šešelj, and it is mutual. Šešelj does not attack Vučić much either. These are matters between the two of them."

Their policy, in his opinion, must be stopped:

"Whoever is not ready to confront bullies should not be surprised if they become a victim tomorrow. When I proposed banning the Serbian Radical Party, SPS, and others, the lustration of their leadership, their dissolution - they told me that you cannot build democracy by dissolving parties. What does that mean? That after the war, Hitler's party should not have been dissolved. Serbia has not gone through catharsis."

"We were in a situation where 16 mass graves were found in Serbia, and Dušan Mihajlović, the then Minister of Police, spoke about it at a closed session where I asked, 'How will we react now, we need to present it to the people,' to which they replied, 'No, you don't understand. Who will invest in a country where you dig with a shovel and pull out a skull?'" Čanak recounted.

He also shared his view on the events in the world and the region:

"Today, Putin's Russia needs imperial expansion to reach the Adriatic Sea through influence in the Balkans, by breaking pro-European Montenegro, to establish a base in the Mediterranean from which Russia could negotiate with the West to leave them alone in Crimea (because they are only interested in Ukraine), in exchange for not igniting the Balkan powder keg."

"If you think that what is happening in Montenegro has anything to do with the Law on Freedom of Religion. I guarantee you that not even one per mille of all those protesting on the streets of Montenegro has read the Law, nor do they know what it says, but it is about disciplining Montenegro and Russia's attempt to take over Montenegro," he added.

He said that the events in Montenegro are just a "demonstration exercise" by Russia for Serbia, so that they know what could happen if it decides to normalize relations with Kosovo.
