Kidneys and cornea explanted this morning from a patient in Zenica are being transplanted to patients at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo

(Patria) - The explantation team of the Cantonal Hospital Zenica, in cooperation with doctors from the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, early this morning completed the explantation of organs from a 42-year-old patient who was diagnosed with brain death, confirmed to Fena by the hospital coordinator for tissue and organ transplantation of the Cantonal Hospital Zenica, MSc in Biomedical Sciences, prim. dr. Senada Kubat-Čaušević.

With the consent of the family, adds Dr. Kubat-Čaušević, both kidneys and the cornea were explanted from the body of the deceased man, born in 1982, which will be transplanted at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo.

"The transplantation of these organs is also underway, so we hope it will be successful. We completed the explantation around two o'clock this morning, so it took some time for our colleagues from Sarajevo to return to their institution, where they began the transplantation procedure, which is still ongoing.

We are grateful to the family who gave their consent and approval for the removal of organs from the deceased member of their family," said Dr. Kubat-Čaušević, who leads the most successful organ and tissue explantation team in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the team of the Cantonal Hospital Zenica.

An important member of this team of the Zenica hospital is also Dr. sc. Nermina Rizvanović, who was previously the hospital coordinator.
