British Government: We oppose border changes in the Balkans

LONDON, (Patria) - Great Britain has announced that it is against border changes in the Balkans and that Serbia and Kosovo should resolve the issue through mutual recognition.

A spokesperson for the British Foreign Ministry said yesterday that "the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is key to the security, stability, and progress of this country and the wider region," as reported by Politico.

- This government believes that this should be the basis for recognizing independent sovereign states within their current borders - said the spokesperson for the British Foreign Ministry, reports Beta.

The change of borders between Serbia and Kosovo was explicitly opposed earlier this month by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but this week she spoke less explicitly on the issue, stating that she supports all talks leading to the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, but that territorial integrity carries significant weight.

White House National Security Advisor John Bolton said last week that the US does not rule out territorial adjustments between Serbia and Kosovo, after which the European Commission announced that Belgrade and Pristina should be given space to agree on the content of the agreement on the normalization of relations.
