Bregović paid one million euros for stealing a song

A French court found Goran Bregović (65) guilty of song plagiarism and ordered him to pay Enrico Masias (76) one million euros for using his song as his own in Emir Kusturica's film 'Arizona Dream', reports the Patria News Agency.

Bregović has paid the penalty, thus becoming the first musician from this region to pay such a large compensation for song plagiarism.

The story was confirmed by Kusturica himself, who reportedly ended his long-standing friendship with Bregović due to this case.

"Brega is an ordinary thief, a skilled thief. I became aware of this when Iggy Pop called me and told me what kind of way it was for him to participate in music that already exists, which is credited as original, and it was stolen. Look, Enrico Macias sued him," Kusturica said at the time in a show on TV B92, writes the Podgorica-based Vijesti.
