Brammertz in the Prosecutor's Office of BiH: Kajganić seeks assistance in processing war crimes where suspects are in Serbia and Croatia

(Patria) - Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH Milanko Kajganić and officials of the Special Department for War Crimes met with the Chief Prosecutor of the MICT, Serge Brammertz, and his associates.

The meeting discussed the work and activities of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH in processing war crimes cases, achieving regional cooperation in the fight against impunity for war crimes, searching for missing persons, cooperation with associations of victims and injured parties from across BiH, and other topics within the scope of work of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the Prosecutor's Office of the MICT.

Officials of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH informed Prosecutor Brammertz about the plan and dynamics of work on cases, filing indictments, and making prosecutorial decisions in war crimes cases by the end of 2024, as well as activities on implementing the National Strategy for Work on War Crimes Cases and transferring less complex cases for processing to the prosecutor's offices of both entities and the Brčko District of BiH.

One of the meeting topics also concerned cooperation among regional prosecutor's offices in working on cases, where officials of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH asked Prosecutor Brammertz and his office to assist in further processing of cases where, due to procedural or other reasons, there has been a standstill in work, given that the Prosecutor's Office of BiH is interested in full regional cooperation to prevent impunity for war crimes in the region, especially cases against persons falling under the Standard Mark "A", obtained from the ICTY Prosecutor's Office, where suspects or accused are hiding from extradition in regional countries.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the Special Department for War Crimes emphasize full commitment to the fight against impunity for war crimes in the coming period, with the support of the Prosecutor's Office of the MICT, as an international institution and a genuine partner in this area.
