Brammertz: New War Crimes Investigation Team Formed in Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Patria) - The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals convened today at the UN Security Council. Key progress in the implementation of international judgments was highlighted on this occasion.

The Mechanism's Chief Prosecutor, Serge Brammertz, spoke, among other things, about activities related to cases and indictees for crimes in Rwanda, as well as in the territory of the former Yugoslavia.

Speaking in the context of war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he emphasized that a new, joint team has been formed in cooperation with the BiH Prosecutor's Office, which will work on investigations.

- Two months ago, we submitted a detailed investigation file to the Chief Prosecutor concerning individuals suspected of notorious crimes against humanity.

Our office has established a joint team that will conduct further investigations with the aim of preparing indictments as soon as possible - states Brammertz.

According to him, this team will have its first meeting as early as this week.

Brammertz added that they have also submitted files to the Montenegrin Prosecutor's Office regarding suspected citizens of Montenegro accused of war crimes, particularly severe sexual violence crimes.
