In the smaller BiH entity of Republika Srpska, the official authorities do not recognize March 1st as the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but Bosniak returnees to RS, as every year, will also mark this holiday, or rather the day when BiH became independent and sovereign.
Ramiz Salkić, Vice-President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska and member of the Presidency of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), told the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) that March 1st - Independence Day will be marked in several places in this entity.
- Academies, forums, and gatherings are being prepared, and Independence Day is being marked regardless of the fact that the official policy and authorities do not accept or support it. It will be the same this year. At all martyrs' cemeteries in RS where they have been established, there will certainly be commemorations, laying of flowers, and paying tribute to those who defended BiH – said Salkić.
He further added that he is aware of several forums that will be held in Kozarac, Janja, and other places.
- Bosniaks know what BiH Independence Day is, even though attempts are being made to erase it from their memory – added Salkić.
