Bosniaks from the village of Žulja near Nevesinje mark 26th anniversary of suffering

NEVESINJE, (Patria) - On Saturday, June 2, the 26th anniversary of the expulsion and suffering of the population in the village of Žulja, Nevesinje municipality, will be marked.

In front of the local mosque, a joint iftar will be held for several hundred people, after which a hatma dova will be recited for all killed and deceased residents of this village, the organizers announced.

They recall that on June 14, 1992, Serbian military units attacked the unprotected population of Žulja, where, in addition to killings, there was mass torture of captives and the abduction of women, children, and the elderly. The oldest victim was 83 years old, and the youngest was just under eight years old.

Twenty-six years later, the families of the victims are still searching for the bodies of the missing. To this day, no one has been held accountable for this crime. The families express their bitterness over the long-standing silence and concealment of this crime and the truth about the fate of their missing family members. They call on the competent institutions to become more actively involved in the process of finding missing persons.

Incidentally, from the village of Žulja, 33 residents were taken and liquidated out of a total of 305 killed Bosniaks in the Nevesinje municipality, whose bodies, according to reliable information, were thrown into the 'Lipovača' pit, from where they were relocated during the war to a new, unknown location.

Incidentally, after Srebrenica and Prijedor, the Nevesinje municipality is the third municipality in terms of the percentage of killed civilian residents in the past war.
