Bosnia and Herzegovina can become an economic miracle in five to ten years!

Zijad Bećirović, director of the International Institute for Balkan Studies (IFIMES) from Ljubljana, believes that Bosnia and Herzegovina can become a true economic miracle in just five to ten years, as Malaysia or Turkey did. However, for that to happen, he says, politics in the country must create a secure environment that will attract foreign investments.

A two-day regional business forum bringing together businessmen from the region begins today at the Hotel Europe in Sarajevo. One panel will be dedicated to the topic of whether the Balkans can connect companies from Europe with the Middle East. Experts, says Bećirović, will among other things today and tomorrow try to detect the real problems of economic stagnation in BiH, but also offer the best solutions for overcoming these obstacles.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, explains Bećirović, is very interesting for foreign businessmen. Because the country's internal resources and potential to become a true economic giant are very strong. This, he says, will be heard during the forum in Sarajevo as well. However, if the resources of this country are to be used, it is clear that some things in the state must start changing today, and this primarily refers to a more serious approach by politicians to the problems in BiH.

- In the Balkans, politics is always ahead of business. That must change - says Bećirović for the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- There is a lack of that economic connection. You see, next year marks 20 years since the end of the war in BiH. Do you know where Europe was in 1965, that is, 20 years after World War II? It was rebuilt and flourishing. Today, our situation is worse than before the breakup of the common country. At the forum in Sarajevo, we will try to detect these problems and see how we can move forward.

After the General Elections in BiH, says Bećirović, it is no longer important who won, it is important that people who know how to do their job are now placed in key positions in the government. If that does not happen, those political parties that are now considered winners will be the biggest losers in a year.

The business forum starting today at 2:00 PM will be opened by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Vjekoslav Bevanda, NAP reports.
