Bosnia and Herzegovina without first-class fruit this year

Fruit growers from Bosnia and Herzegovina are facing major problems this year, primarily due to a lack of fruit and its questionable quality, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

The reason for such a poor season for domestic fruit growers lies in the spring frosts and the long rainy period, which affected the fruit when it was not the right time. Although there are no exact indicators yet of the economic damage our country will suffer due to this, experts expect it to be measured in millions.

Suljo Selimović, an agronomist and owner of one of the largest fruit plantations in Visoko, believes that it is best for most BiH fruit growers to look for buyers in the second and third-class fruit market this year, as we have almost no high-quality produce.

- I delivered one batch of fruit to the Czech Republic. I followed the cold storage truck the whole time, monitored how the fruit behaved during transport, and in the end, I was not satisfied. The fruit did not manage to retain the quality it had at the beginning – says Selimović.

Fruit growing in BiH is taking up an increasing share of our country's economy, and last year we were among the top 15 largest raspberry exporters in the world, writes Patria.
