Bosnian Market at Dobrinja: Sarajevans Organize a Competition in Making Ćetenija

At the plateau of the Bosnian Market in Dobrinja, Sarajevans will compete on Saturday in making ćetenija – a traditional Bosnian-Herzegovinian delicacy, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The delicacy, which is made from sugar, water, flour and lemon, was once a main pastime for girls and boys during long winter nights, but this custom is now largely forgotten.

A whole array of rituals had to be observed to "prepare" the delicacy, making the very act of making ćetenija very interesting.

The organizers of the Sarajevo Ćetenijada said they want to rescue this delicacy from oblivion.

- At the plateau of the Bosnian Market, several ćetenije will be made simultaneously. Visitors who wish to can join the teams and participate in making ćetenija. They can prepare at home and come to make their ćetenija together on the plateau – the organizers stated.

The Ćetenijada in Dobrinja starts at 5 PM, reports NAP.
