Borrell on BiH: Return to state institutions and work on reforms

BRUSSELS, (Patria) - The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated that BiH was high on the agenda of today's EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting because the situation in BiH is very serious.

“We are concerned that they are not using the non-election year for amendments to the Election Law, while on the other hand, some politicians are using this opportunity for obstruction, divisive rhetoric, and secession. I must reiterate that we support BiH's perspective in the EU, a united and sovereign BiH, and we call on all politicians to sit at the negotiating table,” said Borrell.

He stated that the Council calls on politicians to return to state institutions and work on reforms at full capacity.

When asked about potential conflicts, Borrell said that bad news should not be invoked.

“The situation in BiH is stable, I have already said that nationalism and separatism are being brought back to the table by individuals. BiH must remain united. Any attempt to divide it and create new institutions will be prevented. We must stop this immediately,” he said.

Regarding Kosovo and Serbia, Borrell said that the EU calls for dialogue.

Borrell did not speak about sanctions related to BiH in his address, while he explained the sanctions imposed on Belarus.
