Borovac confirmed: Dragan Čović is blocking the signing of the BiH and Islamic Community agreement

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - BiH Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Semiha Borovac stated today at a session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH that Dragan Čović is blocking the proposal for the basis of the agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Islamic Community in BiH.

She said this in response to a parliamentary question from MP Denis Bećirović, who again asked today why the state of BiH has not yet adopted the agreement with the Islamic Community, noting that this has already been done with the Serbian Orthodox Church, and this issue is also regulated with the Catholic Church.

- This indicates that not everyone is equal in BiH. We see that the Islamic Community cannot exercise a right that the other two religious communities can – stated Bećirović.

BiH concluded international agreements - the Basic Agreement between the Holy See and BiH and an additional protocol based on this agreement back in 2007, and the Basic Agreement between the Serbian Orthodox Church and BiH in 2008.

At the initiative of the BiH Presidency and by a conclusion of the BiH Council of Ministers in early 2011, an identical procedure for concluding this agreement with the Islamic Community was established, and negotiations for the conclusion of the agreement were conducted on that basis. Mladen Ivanić and Bakir Izetbegović reached an agreement, "but Dragan Čović is blocking the signature."
