(Patria) - Brazil's federal police have accused former President Jair Bolsonaro of fraud related to his coronavirus vaccination records, well-informed sources said yesterday.
The investigation, conducted by the office of the Comptroller General, has already shown that Bolsonaro's vaccination record is false, Reuters reports.
In addition to Bolsonaro, one of his former aides, Mauro Cid, who was arrested in May last year as part of the investigation, has also been charged.
According to unnamed sources, Bolsonaro is accused of entering false data into the country's Unified Health System and forming a criminal organization.
The former Brazilian president reiterated to Reuters that he did not receive the coronavirus vaccine and added that he is calm.
- This is a selective investigation. I am calm, I owe nothing - Bolsonaro said, adding that the world knows he did not even receive the vaccine.
During his term, Bolsonaro repeatedly downplayed the importance of immunization and social distancing measures during the pandemic, which killed more than 700,000 people in Brazil.
