The illness returned after 5 years: Little Ajdin embarks on a new battle

Ajdin Jusić is back in Sarajevo. His seat in the classroom at Prva osnovna school will have to wait, as fighting for his health is the priority now, reports the Patria News Agency.

He has never endured the doctor's call and the news that a new treatment cycle awaits him after surgery, which will begin this week with radiation therapy at a clinic in Sarajevo. Ajdin first encountered the illness five years ago. He was that age then.

Lethargy, behavioral changes, and a visit to the doctors led to a diagnosis of lymph node cancer. It was extremely difficult for this large family, father, mother, sisters, and brothers.

Even though there was no permanent employment, they managed the treatment on their own, with family support, and through an initiative launched by Prva osnovna school, where Ajdin's brothers and sister attended. They never asked for help.

Even after surgery, chemotherapy, cytostatics, and radiation, the illness was overcome at that time. Doctors said that after five years, with regular check-ups, the cancer could be considered defeated. The Jusić family hoped for this. Only the last check-up remained, when it would have been exactly five years.

Two months before that, after four years and eight months, his mother noticed that Ajdin was not feeling well. A trip to the doctors diagnosed that the cancer had returned and this time had taken over Ajdin's spleen. Surgery was immediately proposed and scheduled.

Even then, the Jusić family did not ask for help, although Ajdin needed expensive vaccines before the surgery. Kind people heard about it, and some funds were raised for Ajdin through initiatives in the city.

At the same time, the association "Heart for Children with Cancer," which includes Ina Selimagić from Krupa, managed to obtain the necessary vaccine for Ajdin, and doctors successfully operated on little Ajdin before the scheduled date, removing his diseased spleen.

Unfortunately, recent check-up results showed another tumor near the spleen, and thus Ajdin embarked on a new battle. His mother went with Ajdin; in the meantime, she worked jobs to support the large family with her husband, doing odd jobs, cleaning, and caring for the elderly.

Kind people knocked on their door again and gave them permission to ask people to get more involved and to secure funds for Ajdin's future treatment, which will be for very expensive medications he will have to use.

It is not easy for them this time either. However, they have overlooked their discomfort and decided that, together with good people, they can give Ajdin more hope for faster and more successful treatment.

Ajdin, usually a talkative boy, could not speak this time, despite his desire, due to tears. The thought of going to Sarajevo, which he always spoke of as his second city where everyone cared for him, choked him with tears.

On Tuesday, November 10th, Ajdin arrived at the clinic in Sarajevo. A council of doctors, in consultation with Slovenian experts, changed the therapy, and Ajdin must undergo nine strong chemotherapy sessions, along with taking cytostatics for four months, with one package costing 2,413 KM. After this treatment, if necessary, Ajdin will undergo radiation therapy.

Let us unite in Ajdin's and his family's shared wish to defeat the malignant disease once again, this time completely, the cruel reality that did not yield to the good boy Ajdin from Bosanska Krupa.
