Rich program for marking May 2nd - Stari Grad Municipality Day

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Next week, the program for marking Stari Grad Municipality Day - May 2nd begins. The program will last eight days, and this year too, diverse content adapted for all generations is planned, the municipality of Stari Grad announced. 

The youngest will again enjoy the performances of the Festival of Children's Art FEDU, whose main partner is the Municipality of Stari Grad. The festival opens on May 3rd at 8:00 PM at the Youth Theatre with the play "Ježić Žožo", and during five days, it will offer children the best plays, the most beautiful fairy tales, and the most wonderful songs. Admission to all performances will be free, with prior notice.

For the youngest, the 'Day of Children's Joy' will also be organized this year, on Alija Izetbegović Liberation Square, on Friday, May 10th. Along with program hosts, animators, and mascots, children will also enjoy the educational-entertainment play "Help us, doctor, heal our dolls", and a dance party. At the same time, the Elementary School Basketball Festival, organized by the Basketball Club BBY, will be held on the Square.

As part of the Stari Grad Municipality Day, the First International Piano Competition "Matusja Blum Memorial" Sarajevo 2019 will be held, organized by the Mladen Pozajić Elementary Music School Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Music High School, from May 3rd to 5th. This competition, organized in honor of one of the greatest piano pedagogues from this region, Professor Matusja Blum, is aimed at promoting young artists, international cultural cooperation, and the expansion of knowledge and experience, as well as the promotion of the municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo.

The program also includes the Fifth International Conference 'Sarajevo and the World', organized by the International Forum Bosna in cooperation with the Municipality of Stari Grad. The first scientific colloquium "Sheikh Abdurahman Sikirić in Bosnian Culture" opens the conference, which begins on May 4th at the Forum's premises. The program also includes an exhibition of calligraphic sheets by Hazim Numanagić, the International Scientific Conference Sarajevo and the World, a conversation with Amor Mašović titled 'Attitude towards the dead, a guarantee for the future of the living', a concert by the Pontanima choir, and other events.

For the pensioners of Stari Grad, in cooperation with the Pensioners' Association from this municipality, as well as the Center for Health Promotion and Improvement, a one-day excursion and gathering will be organized on Bjelašnica. Also, a visit to centenarians living in the area of this municipality will be arranged.

The marking of May 2nd, one of the most significant dates in the history of this municipality when crucial battles for the defense of Stari Grad, as well as Sarajevo, were fought in 1992, will begin with a visit to the grave of Isa bey Ishaković, the tomb of Gazi Husrev-beg, and the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery. On the same day, at 11:00 AM, the Municipality of Stari Grad will organize the distribution of gifts for 250 members of the veteran population, with a fitting program in the Multimedia Hall of the Kovači Memorial Center.
