Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy could soon find himself at the center of a trial over suspicions that he financed his failed re-election campaign in 2012 from "illegal sources," a judicial source told Reuters, as reported by Patria.
This source stated that 13 other individuals are expected to face trial in the so-called "Bygmalion affair," which involves suspicions of various financial irregularities.
The decision to bring Sarkozy to justice is the result of a major investigation that the French government is conducting into local politicians and their personal finances, in preparation for the presidential elections in April and May.
