All illegal election posters in Stari Grad will be removed

The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo informs the public that all illegally placed election posters, banners, advertising boards and other propaganda material placed in Stari Grad: Ferhadija, Sarači, Baščaršija Square, Zelenih beretki, Štrosmajerova, Trg oslobođenja-Alija Izetbegović streets and all other streets will be removed, and that competent municipal inspectorates have been dispatched to the scene to prevent violations of the Law on Communal Cleanliness of the Sarajevo Canton (Official Gazette of Sarajevo Canton 14/16), it was announced from the Municipality of Stari Grad, reports the Patria News Agency. 

Intensive poster placement in the aforementioned streets was noticed the previous night of 26/27.09.2016, when employees of the municipal Service for Communal Affairs and inspectors of the Sector for Inspection Affairs went to the field and, in accordance with their powers, attempted to remove illegally placed posters and banners. The propaganda material (banners) was not removed because it could not be accessed as it was placed at a great height, as well as on power lines. Also, posters were illegally placed on traffic signs and traffic lights. On that occasion, an intervention by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton was requested, but it did not happen.

The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo calls on all political subjects to refrain from improperly placing posters, banners, election messages, etc., and calls on the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs (KUIP) of the Sarajevo Canton to undertake the necessary activities in accordance with the Law on Communal Cleanliness of the Sarajevo Canton, which prohibits the placement of posters outside the designated areas.

Given that the KUIP of the Sarajevo Canton requested additional engagement of municipal inspectorates before the start of the election campaign in order to prevent and sanction illegal activities within the jurisdiction of these bodies in a timely manner, we expect them to act in accordance with their powers now. The same is expected from the cantonal public utility companies “Park” and “Rad”, whose machinery is necessary for the removal of the material.

The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo will today, through competent municipal services, request the support of members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, KUIP, and public utility companies “Rad” and “Park”, and undertake activities to remove illegally placed posters and other propaganda material.
