Bill Clinton: The Srebrenica Memorial Center is a reminder to the whole world of our shared humanity

(Patria) - Former US President Bill Clinton stated on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center that it is a place of remembrance and reflection and a reminder to the whole world of what he called our shared humanity.

In his video address, Clinton expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to join the commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.

"I will never forget participating in its opening in 2003. As I said that day, I hoped and prayed that this place would be a serious reminder to the whole world of our shared humanity, and over these twenty years, the Memorial Center has been exactly that and much more. It is a place of remembrance and reflection, of lasting tribute to the lives lost, and of a solemn promise that we must be vigilant so that such horrors are never repeated again, neither in Bosnia and Herzegovina nor anywhere else," Clinton said in his video address to those present.

The former US president opened the Memorial Center in Potočari, near Srebrenica, on this day in 2003, when 107 victims were buried. Today, he took the opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the Memorial Center becoming what it is.

"As we remember the more than 8,000 men and boys killed in the Srebrenica genocide, the greatest tribute we can pay them is to build a future worthy of their memory. Let us make up for the years they did not live by building a world in which all children are safe and loved and have the opportunity to achieve their own dreams, in which cooperation triumphs over conflict, and in which different people live together as true partners. I still believe that such a future is possible, and I will always be with you to work together and turn it into reality," Clinton conveyed.

The 20th anniversary of the official opening of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, a monument and cemetery for the victims of the 1995 genocide, is being commemorated today in the former production hall of the battery factory.
