BILD: German citizen Jens F. reported for spying on the Bundestag and passing data to Russian GRU

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A criminal complaint has been filed against German citizen Jens F. before the State Security Senate of the Higher Regional Court in Berlin for acting as a secret agent.

According to information from BILD, Jens F. was an employee of a company that controls accident prevention and fire protection in the Bundestag.

"Everything that has a plug gets a sticker from them," BILD learns.

In this context, the accused had access to PDF files containing floor plans of the Bundestag.

No later than in the period from the end of July 2017 to the beginning of September 2017, the accused, according to the indictment, decided on his own to forward information about the assets of the German Bundestag to Russian intelligence services.

For this purpose, he created a data carrier with the corresponding PDF files and sent it to an employee at the Russian embassy in Berlin, who works full-time for the Russian military intelligence service GRU.

This 55-year-old was not taken into custody because there were no urgent suspicions and no risk of flight, said a spokesman for the Federal Prosecutor's Office.

Now the State Security Senate of the Higher Regional Court in Berlin must decide, based on the evidence presented, whether to allow the indictment to be brought.

The motive of this man is still unclear, at least he had no previous contact with Russia. The spokesman did not want to say why the alleged spy was exposed. According to BILD information, the broadcast with sensitive data was apparently intercepted by German services.

According to BILD's findings, the role of the accused Jens F. in the NVA and his contacts with the Stasi could also be discussed at the trial.
