After residents of Graz launched a petition to name a street in this Austrian city after Bosnian-Herzegovinian football expert Ivica Osim, long-time sports journalist Muhamed Bikić has also submitted an initiative to rename a street in the Bosnian capital, specifically in Novo Sarajevo, after the legendary Štraus from Grbavica, reports the Patria news agency.
- As a citizen and resident of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality, I hereby submit an initiative to rename parts of Zvornička Street, from numbers 9 to 27 and from 29 to 55, to Ivica Osim Street. There is much symbolism in this, as one of the streets of Ivica Osim's childhood is in the Novo Sarajevo neighborhood of Hrasno, where he was born, took his first steps, made his first football moves, and there is also the Grbavica Stadium, which he made famous as a player and coach of FK Željezničar.
The legendary Osim, as a human and sports ambassador of BiH, deserves to have a street named after him while he is still alive, in the part of the city where he originated as a man and an athlete, and where generations grow up for whom this man was and remains a role model. Since Zvornička Street extends across the territory of two local communities (Grbavica II and Trg Heroja) of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality, I submit this initiative in both, with a request that it be forwarded for further procedure to the competent institutions and bodies - says Bikić.
