'White Stream': The surrounded population of Klisa on June 1, 1992, embarked on the 'path of death' in hope of freedom

(Patria) - The 'path of death' from Klisa to Bijeli Potok in Zvornik was walked by many again this year, in memory of those taken away in the column called "Bijeli potok" in 1992.



Several hundred men, women, young people, and children attended the traditional march, remembering the events of 32 years ago during the walk.

- I was also there on June 1, 1992, not as a participant in the column, but as one of those who saw it all. Since 1999, we have been trying to maintain a culture of remembrance for what we experienced. Several thousand people passed through that path alone.



We have not yet found 244 of the killed, nor my brother. Thank God, through our struggle, we raise people's awareness year after year about the importance of commemoration - said the local imam Senajid Alić, who was born in Klisa and has been serving as an imam for 23 years.

Suada Selimović was at this place 32 years ago with her husband and three children, and 21 family members.



- I had an eight-month-old baby then. I walked down to Bijeli Potok in the column, it was horrific. At Bijeli Potok, they separated my husband and all of my family. After 16 years, I found my husband's remains, and we are still searching for the others. We can never forget the horror we survived.

This path was like a corridor for us, and armed individuals stopped us every few meters, searched us, some even hit us, we didn't know where we were going or what awaited us. At Bijeli Potok, they separated all the men, and transported the women by trucks to Memići - she said.



After the march, at 11 AM, the opening of the martyrs' memorial at Bijeli Potok is planned. Then, at 3 PM, a collective funeral prayer for the victims of Zvornik will be held at the Memorial Center in Kalesija.

The surrounded population from Klisa embarked on this path on this day, June 1, 1992, in hope of freedom.



Boys, young men, and old men were separated from their loved ones and taken to execution sites. Many were found in the Crni Vrh mass grave, the largest mass grave in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
