(Patria) - Protected natural areas of Sarajevo Canton continue to confirm their status as the most attractive natural destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the first quarter of 2026, despite the winter period, the Nature Monument "Vrelo Bosne" was visited by 26,800 citizens, while Bijambare recorded 7,500 visits. With the continuously high attendance of Trebević and Bentbaša, these figures herald a successful season, building on the record year of 2025, which saw over 400,000 visits.
The Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, emphasizes that these results are the fruit of a clear vision and joint work of all levels of government.
"Our goal is clear – to build a growing Sarajevo that also jealously guards its natural treasures. The number of visitors in 2026 shows that we are on the right path. Such results are the product of excellent cooperation between the cantonal ministries of economy and communal economy, and successful partnerships with the Environmental Protection Fund and federal institutions. When we work as a team, our natural wealth becomes the most beautiful side of Sarajevo," stated Prime Minister Uk.
In the segment of biodiversity protection, the beginning of the year was marked by expert activities in the field. Alongside monitoring of ornithofauna and cave ecosystems, forest protection measures are being implemented in Trebević, Bijambare, and Skakavac, while reports from supervisory services in Bentbaša and Trebević confirm the public's constant interest in spending time outdoors.
The Director of the Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas, Asad Jelešković, emphasizes that the Institution's focus is on creating new facilities that are in complete harmony with the environment.
"We have successfully completed the equipping of a new speleological exhibition in Bijambare, and our plan for this year also includes the development of the 'Wooden Town' site, the construction of a pedestrian bridge in Bijambare, and the arrangement of a thematic playground at Vrelo Bosne and the ambient arrangement of Kosmatica on Trebević. Each of these projects is planned in accordance with the international standards of the Green Destinations program, with the aim of ensuring a quality stay in nature through the modernization of services, while preserving the integrity of our ecosystems," said Director Jelešković.
Finally, Prime Minister Uk invited all citizens to take advantage of the upcoming spring days to visit these locations.
"I invite all our citizens to spend their free time at Vrelo Bosne, Bijambare, Trebević, Skakavac, or Bentbaša. Our protected areas are the most beautiful part of Sarajevo Canton and the best place for rest, recreation, and enjoyment of the pristine nature that we must protect together," concluded Prime Minister Uk.
