BiH plans to send more migrants back to where they came from

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Selmo Cikotić, Minister of Civil Affairs Ankica Gudeljević, and Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Miloš Lučić, held a meeting in Sarajevo today to discuss the establishment of more effective coordination in managing the migrant situation in BiH. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH also attended the meeting.

The current situation, migration flows, and key challenges in this area, which has become a humanitarian and security challenge for the state of BiH, as well as the region and the whole of Europe, were presented. The implementation of the adopted migration management plan and the involvement of all competent ministries in resolving migration issues were discussed, in order for BiH to respond to this problem as prepared as possible.

It was emphasized that last year, twice fewer migrants were registered in BiH compared to the previous year, thanks to the measures taken to combat illegal migration and due to the pandemic, which reduced migrant movements.

In the next period, along with additional border protection measures, it is planned to sign readmission agreements with the countries that are the largest source of migrants, which will enable their return to their countries of origin, and will also serve as a preventive measure to deter migrants from using our country for transit to EU countries.
