BiH must pass a law banning denial of the committed genocide this year

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the session of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Denis Bećirović, SDP delegate in the Bosniak Club, inquired about the adoption of the law banning the denial of genocide. Since Zoran Tegeltija, Chairman of the Council of Ministers, was not present, there was no answer, but Bećirović insists on a response in order to know the next steps.

"I am interested in what they have concretely undertaken with the aim of adopting the law banning the denial of the committed genocide. I believe that in this year, when we mark the 25th anniversary of the committed genocide, we must definitely pass this law. I want to see if we have the capacity to adopt the law in the BiH Parliament. If it is not possible to adopt this law in the BiH Parliament, there is another way prescribed by the Dayton Peace Agreement," said Bećirović.

We recall, the High Representative in BiH, Valentin Inzko, announced that BiH will have a law banning the denial of genocide this year, assessing that recognition of genocide is a civilizational norm.
BiH could get a law banning the denial of genocide if the High Representative decides to impose it.

More precisely, the High Representative, according to the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Bonn Powers, ratified by the UN Security Council, can make a decision to adopt a law banning the denial of genocide. This would make such a law valid in BiH, i.e., it would enter into force eight days after publication in the "Official Gazette of BiH".
