Bosnia and Herzegovina has the right to a free shipping lane and to access the open sea via international waters

Organized by the Congress of Bosniaks of the World and the Bosniak Movement for Equality of Peoples, the Initial Conference of the Coalition "Let's Defend the Maritime State Rights of Bosnia and Herzegovina" was held today. Participants in the conference were Prof. Dr. Emeritus Munir Jahić, Ing. Nešad Alikadić, architect and expert in maritime traffic, Ing. Ševal Kovačević, expert in the field of traffic, and they were hosted by the Vice-President of the Congress of Bosniaks of the World Ahmet Sejdić and Sejfudin Tokić, President of the Bosniak Movement for Equality of Peoples.

In their presentations, Jahić, Kovačević, and Alikadić explained all aspects from which the construction of the Pelješac Bridge is illegal, and that its construction violates numerous international conventions and infringes upon the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Croatia, they said, is not building the bridge in its territorial and internal waters, but in international waters, even though Article 60, Paragraph 7 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea prohibits the construction of structures, installations, and artificial islands in a shipping lane used for international purposes.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to international maritime conventions, given its indented coastline, has the right to a free shipping lane and to access the open sea via international waters, concluded today's meeting, reports NAP.
