Bosnia and Herzegovina has two world tourism phenomena, one is Međugorje and the other is the pyramids in Visoko, says archaeologist Semir Osmanagić in an interview with the BH News Agency Patria, adding that it is incomprehensible that the authorities in BiH do not want to use these potentials.
Osmanagić has been advocating for several years the thesis that tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina can be the driver of the entire economy in the country, but this idea has never received sufficient support from the authorities, which has been criticized by many domestic and international experts.
The natural beauties and rich history of the country can only be additional elements that will complement BiH's tourism offer, i.e., keep tourists in the country longer, but the main tourism potential of BiH, Osmanagić explains, are the pyramids and Međugorje.
BiH can particularly benefit from the fact, Osmanagić adds, that tourists in recent years want new destinations they can visit in the world, but also from the fact that Egypt, Tunisia, and some other countries are no longer safe for tourists due to the war events in this part of the world.
- Unfortunately, a group of enthusiasts cannot bear the entire burden that this job entails alone. In order for BiH to fully utilize its tourism potential, the state must also provide us with assistance, primarily by building infrastructure, starting from roads to hotels, because we are the last in Europe in that regard – concludes Osmanagić, writes Patria.
