BiH gets six new kilometres of modern motorway: Tunnel "1 March" opened

Tunnel „1. mart“ and the Zenica south - Lašva section on Corridor 5C were opened tonight with fireworks and a large number of public figures from Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports a reporter from the BH news agency Patria (NAP).

For motorway users, the section will be fully open from Saturday, 26 August, at 5 am. The „1 March“ tunnel is the most modern tunnel in the region, and some equipment, such as LED lighting, has been installed for the first time in a tunnel in these areas. The construction of this tunnel cost around 62 million euros.

Nearly three kilometres long and one of the most demanding tunnels on Corridor 5C, the „1 March“ tunnel will connect Sarajevo and Zenica with a modern motorway, which will ultimately contribute to stronger and faster economic development of this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes NAP.

After two Slovenian companies went bankrupt during the tunnel construction, domestic companies took over the construction and completed the work in record time. The "1 March" tunnel was built by more than 300 workers who worked 24 hours a day on its construction.

The state company Motorways of the FBiH emphasises that the "1 March" tunnel is a success for BH construction, as working on it allowed domestic companies to gain the necessary references and now they can build outside Bosnia and Herzegovina as well.

Tunnel safety will be monitored 24 hours a day from the control room of the Traffic Maintenance and Control Centre of the company Motorways of the Federation of BiH. Operators in the control room will receive alerts about even the smallest irregularity in the tunnel, writes Patria.
