Cyclists from BiH to visit stećci nominated for UNESCO list

The Mountain Biking Association MTBA, together with partners, the Association for the Promotion of Cycling „Hercegovina Bike“, MTBA Sarajevo, and the Cycling Club „KPL Vlasenica“, will implement the project “Biking and Heritage for Bosnia and Herzegovina” with the help of grant funds from the Embassy of the United States of America in BiH, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

As part of the project, young people from several cities will, over a period of 15 months, visit by bicycle twenty municipalities across Bosnia and Herzegovina, where stećci nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage list by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of BiH are located. On this occasion, young people will have the opportunity to learn about the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to socialize with their peers from other cities.

The project aims to mark twenty years of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e., twenty years since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, under which, according to Annex 8, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of BiH was established, whose representatives will also participate in the project.

The project is also focused on promoting the common cultural values of the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of inter-ethnic reconciliation. 

Upon completion of the cycling visits, a web and mobile application will be created with interactive maps of all locations under UNESCO protection in BiH, which will be available via the „Google Play store“. These maps will also be printed and distributed through tourist offices for the purpose of promotion and creating a tourist offer, thus aiming to achieve the project's sustainability.
