Bosnia's Zmijanje embroidery now on UNESCO list

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova presented Mladen Ivanić with a certificate on Friday in Sarajevo on the inclusion of Zmijanje embroidery on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

Ivanić, who subsequently handed the certificate to the Director of the Museum of Republika Srpska, Nada Puvačić, said it was a genuine pleasure to have had the opportunity to host Bokova at the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He cited two reasons for this: one is the inclusion of Zmijanje embroidery on the protected UNESCO list, and the other is the celebration of ten years since the declaration of the City of Mostar as a UNESCO protected zone.

- Although I am not an expert in this, I must say that it is a very complicated and difficult embroidery: a white background, blue cross-shaped ribbons, and still a living school, because that was the crucial reason why we received this certificate from UNESCO.

And the second reason why I am happy and satisfied with today's visit is the ten years since the declaration of the City of Mostar, also under UNESCO protection.

Both send a positive message from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Different cultural values, but common messages. Positive messages that we can all be proud of together, because we have made a significant contribution to global culture in the world as a whole – stated Ivanić, reports NAP.
