Bosnian students win gold and silver medals at Genius Olympiad in New York

(Patria) - Students from Bosnia and Herzegovina won gold and silver medals at the Genius Olympiad in New York.

The host of this international high school competition dedicated to environmental challenges was the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Students from "Richmond Park International School" from Tuzla achieved excellent results with their innovative projects, thus representing Bosnia and Herzegovina in the best possible way through science and knowledge. Adnan Šehanović and Faris Dinarević won gold for their project "The Green Deal", and student Ariana Šarić won silver for her project in the art category, it was announced from the mentioned school in Tuzla.

The students were accompanied by their mentor professor Nedžad Konjić, a long-time employee of Richmond Park International School, as well as guest student Almas Tukić from the third year of gymnasium, who provided support to his colleagues during the competition.

Konjić expressed satisfaction with the results. "Considering that there were 1,014 projects and 578 artworks from 67 countries worldwide and 34 US states at the GENIUS Olympiad, these medals are a top achievement," he said.

In the Science category, over 2,500 projects were submitted, of which 1,014 were selected for the finals, including the work of students from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Adnan Šehanović and Faris Dinarević represented the country with the project "The Green Deal", which is their conceived method for cooling water in a power plant to improve its efficiency. The students are proud to have represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at such a large competition. They were awarded a gold medal for their outstanding project, said mentor Konjić.

Ariana Šarić, in the Art category, competing against 578 works from participants worldwide, was awarded a silver medal. This was the first time Bosnia and Herzegovina had representatives in this category, and they were elementary school students, even though it is a high school competition.

The themes were environmental changes and their consequences on the environment. Ariana presented her artwork "Final Gallop", where seven distressed horses flee from a fiery inferno, seeking refuge in an icy ocean. The seven horses represent the seven continents, and the eyeless horses symbolize the indifference of the environment to the changes occurring. To bring this scene to life, she used a vibrant palette of acrylic paints to depict both the destructive power of fire and the ominous transformation of the once-blue ocean in the background into flames. The horses, painted with striking, spectral detail, are depicted to capture the viewer's attention and evoke empathy and alarm. With this work, the author wanted to encourage a re-evaluation of our relationship with the environment and the imperative of confronting climate change before it alters the landscapes we love so much. In May of this year, Ariana had her first solo exhibition of artworks at the Archives of Tuzla Canton.

At this year's Genius Olympiad, over 1,000 high school students from 34 American states and 67 countries worldwide presented their projects to judges in various categories, including science, writing, business, robotics, music, short film, programming, and art. Students who achieve notable results at the competition are eligible for annual scholarships if they decide to study at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Genius competition was established in 2011 by Terra Science and Education and the aforementioned university.

The Genius Olympiad is traditionally held at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.
