BH Telecom presented information system for transplantation program

BH Telecom presented an information system developed for the transplant medicine program in FBiH. The information system is the result of cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Health and BH Telecom, and more about the project itself was highlighted in their addresses by Federal Minister of Health Rusmir Mesihović, BH Telecom CEO Nedžad Rešidbegović, and BH Telecom Executive Director Elvidin Kovač, reports the Patria News Agency.

 

BH Telecom and the Federal Ministry of Health signed a Protocol agreeing on joint cooperation in developing an information system for the transplant medicine program in FBiH. The Protocol stipulates that BH Telecom will provide the prerequisites for providing ICT services to support the human organ donation program in the Federation of BiH.

The presented information system enables the following activities:

1. An application running in BH Telecom's Cloud, maintenance of functionality and technical support
2. Connection of 17 locations to each other and to the application on the BH Telecom and KC side
3. Communication services for each individual user, which will enable communication/conversations between all users within the closed system
4. A contact center for users on the client side who will be able to receive and provide information to potential donors about the conditions for organ donation, etc., with insight into the data that will be stored in the application (call records, email reception, access to the application in the Cloud)
5. Video calls and direct connection of the medical team from a remote location to an ongoing surgery
6. Recording of surgeries (explantation/transplantation) for archiving purposes and later for education
7. Calls and monitoring of donor transport organization to the place where explantation will be performed, or transport of organs to the location where transplantation will be performed (transport monitoring via LBS service)
8. Terminal equipment, VDI – Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, VPN Client.

Incidentally, the entire project began in December 2013 with the signing of a protocol between the Federal Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia on cooperation in the field of organ procurement and transplantation for treatment purposes. This Protocol defined the forms of technical cooperation, with the primary goal of establishing a successful organizational model for organ collection in the Federation of BiH, modeled after the Croatian model, and further development of the transplant program in the Federation of BiH.

The Protocol also provides for the exchange of organs based on the principles of solidarity and reciprocity of donated and received organs. This includes the possibility for priority candidates from the Federation of BiH for heart and liver transplants, and exceptionally a child for a kidney transplant, to be included on the Croatian waiting list for transplantation, through selected transplant centers in Croatia, and with the prior consent of both competent ministries.

Croatia and the Federation of BiH have agreed through the Protocol on the principles of further cooperation in order to establish a successful model for organ procurement and transplantation in the Federation of BiH. This cooperation includes the exchange of experiences and improvement of knowledge in the field of transplant medicine with expert assistance, i.e., mentoring from Croatian experts in pre-transplant processing, surgical transplant techniques, post-transplant care and treatment of complications in patients, as well as providing advisory services in legal, organizational, ethical and professional matters, including the development of protocols, guidelines and other strategic documents and services.

Croatia, as a regional leader in this field, within the framework of the Health Network of South-Eastern European Countries (SEEHN), has ongoing cooperation and provides support for the development and improvement of transplant programs in the countries of the region.
