(Patria) - The European Parliament has received a letter from Bosnian-Herzegovinian MPs regarding the current political and security situation in the country.
The Bosnian MPs gave their EU colleagues insight into the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with special emphasis on threats to the constitutional order of BiH coming from the entity of Republika Srpska.
They highlighted the importance of strengthening EUFOR forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The letter states, among other things:
“A future pro-European coalition at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be formed very soon and will consist of European-oriented political parties from both BiH entities that will advocate for peace, stability, European integration, the rule of law, the fight against corruption, economic growth and development, and good regional cooperation.
Therefore, we demand that the international community led by the EU and the USA, together with domestic institutions, act quickly, responsibly, and decisively.
We consider it extremely important that the European Union as soon as possible increases the number of soldiers in the EUFOR mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that part of the troops be moved to the Brčko District, and that EUFOR provide assistance to the police agencies of Bosnia and Herzegovina in protecting territorial integrity and sovereignty and in implementing judicial decisions throughout the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is in line with EUFOR's mandate in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the same time, it is important to intensify international pressure on separatists from Republika Srpska who are subject to domestic, and soon international, arrest warrants, and to strengthen the sanctions mechanism both at the level of the European Union and by individual EU member states.
We ask you to consider this letter as a call for urgent action, in order to prevent possible situations with unforeseeable consequences, because any calculation will encourage those who seek to destroy the constitutional order and jeopardize the hard-won peace and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Western Balkan region, and even the whole of Southeast Europe,” the letter states, among other things.
