Bosnian dairy farmers to block customs terminals until levies are introduced

We will not block border crossings, we will block customs terminals tomorrow at 12:05, said Mehmed Nikšić, president of the Federation of BiH milk producers for the Bosnian news agency Patria. They will do this together with dairy farmers from the RS.

- We will not hinder the flow of people, but the flow of goods of animal origin entering BiH.

The reason is the long-standing dissatisfaction of milk producers in BiH, and the final decision was made after today's meeting on the problems of the dairy industry, which was attended by state and entity officials.

- Those present were the people most responsible for this situation – said Nikšić, adding that BiH producers cannot be competitive with European ones who receive 12.9 times more subsidies.
- We do not have blue diesel. We have no benefits, while producers in Europe have 10 types of subsidies on various grounds. We can no longer allow them to play games with us – said Nikšić.

He also pointed out that most foreign dairies have lowered milk prices since November 1.

- They lowered prices without any agreement or warning, which shows a monopoly in the processing industry by foreign dairies. All the money of BiH citizens goes to other countries, and the only large domestic dairy is „Milkos“ – said Nikšić, adding that products have appeared at a price of 86 feninga without any control on the BiH market.

The blockade of customs terminals will last until levies on milk imports are introduced, NAP writes.
