Bosnian and German young graffiti artists to paint Spajalica Youth Centre

The German Embassy and the Institute for Youth Development KULT are organizing an international graffiti event on March 12 and 13 at the SPAJALICA Educational and Recreational Centre for Youth (ul. Banjska 2), reports the Patria News Agency.

Six street artists - graffiti artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany will participate in the graffiti event, painting the youth centre in vibrant colours.

Jens Wagner, Cultural Attaché at the German Embassy Sarajevo:

-We are pleased to support this young and important branch of art, graffiti, with this event!

In June 2014, young people from over 20 countries met in Sarajevo and discussed lessons learned from the past hundred years.

In their final declaration, they presented three topics, from their perspective, that are most important in our time: overcoming nationalism, international networking of youth, and active participation of citizens in the democratic process.

Graffiti artists have therefore been invited to artistically address these three themes.

-What young people identified as significant for them through our conferences, graffiti artists from BiH and Germany will now paint on the wall. The SPAJALICA Educational and Recreational Centre for Youth is a centre visited annually by over 1600 young people from different parts of the world, so the artistic message will be conveyed to the centre's visitors through graffiti colours, said Nejra Neimarlija Roić, Project Coordinator, Institute for Youth Development KULT.

The graffiti event, like the youth conference, is also organized as part of the Young Europe initiative supported by the European Union, and as part of the Sarajevo 2014 project. On Friday, March 13, 2015, at 12:30 PM, a joint press conference of the German Embassy and the Institute for Youth Development KULT will be held at the SPAJALICA Educational and Recreational Centre for Youth.

In addition to the organizers, representatives of the EU Delegation to BiH will attend the press conference, it was announced from the German Embassy in BiH.
