Bosnian citizens complain most about the judiciary

In the first three months of 2014, the Institution of Ombudsmen for Human Rights of BiH received 743 complaints. The largest number of complaints relates to judicial institutions, with 147, and to the work of administrative bodies, with 124 complaints. A slightly smaller number of submitted complaints relates to discrimination and violations of the freedom of information access law, with 52 and 48 complaints respectively, and 48 complaints in the area of employment relations, the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP) has learned.

Complaints were also filed in the areas of child rights, rights of persons with disabilities, detainees/prisoners, and property-legal relations.

Last year, in the same period of January-March, 775 citizen complaints were received.

According to the Institution of Ombudsmen for Human Rights of BiH, out of the total number of complaints received in the current year, 116 complaints have been resolved. In the same period, the Ombudsmen issued 46 recommendations.

- The ways of concluding cases are defined by the Law on Ombudsmen for Human Rights of BiH and the Rules of Procedure, and based on statistical indicators from previous years, it is evident that a significant number of cases are concluded after the Ombudsman's intervention during the proceedings, where complainants achieve their rights, without special measures and recommendations - the Institution of Ombudsmen for Human Rights of BiH stated for NAP.

Within the scope of handling complaints, the Institution of Ombudsmen for Human Rights of BiH undertakes necessary activities, including individual actions for investigation, seeking explanations from bodies regarding complaints, explanations on issued recommendations, monitoring court and administrative proceedings, informing complainants about the statements of responsible parties, urging competent bodies, various requests for explanations and additions to complaints, and informing the public about human rights violations.
