BH Bloc in Mostar: Elections will be held in October

MOSTAR, (Patria) - Representatives of the BH Bloc, consisting of SDP BiH and Our Party, held a forum "The Future of Mostar" in that city. The implementation of local elections this year was discussed, after 12 years without civil rights for Mostar residents.

The president of Our Party, Predrag Kojović, emphasized that he believes that the elections in Mostar will be held this year, because everything is no longer in the hands of the leaders of SDA and HDZ.

The European Court of Human Rights has prescribed a very clear mechanism, and parliamentarians are expected to resolve this issue within six months.

"Mostar has been a hostage for 12 years to a policy that does not want elections to happen in this city, because they are fantastic the way it is, it suits them. However, the citizens do not agree with the statement that this is a fantastic situation, as it has been in Mostar for 12 years," said Kojović, adding that the Constitutional Court of BiH should impose a solution.

Kojović compares the fact that only SDA and HDZ are negotiating the situation in Mostar, without other parties, not even those with whom they form a majority in the BiH Parliament, to the situation in BiH. He points out that those who created the problem cannot be part of the solution.

SDP MP in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Saša Magazinović, said that the issue of elections in Mostar should not be linked to any other political issue.

"Without any exhibitions with special laws, with the regulation of statutes outside the City Council, and it is very simple if you want to work, or very complicated when you don't want to do it, then you invent a thousand and one reasons why it is not possible," emphasized Magazinović.

The vice-president of Our Party, Irma Baralija, who sued the state of BiH at the European Court of Human Rights for not holding elections in Mostar, points out that the future of Mostar is finally being discussed.

"The future of Mostar is, above all, the return of democracy to this city, and that is what we will primarily insist on. After that, restoring citizens' trust in the system itself and involving citizens in the decision-making process that concerns their quality of life. I think they feel quite frustrated and excluded, and this is a way to return their rights to them," concluded Baralija.
