Without media, a horrific case would be hushed up: Mayor of Bihać immediately helped Sabina and Halid

After yesterday's unfortunate incident and the dog attack on three-year-old Halid Čović, Emdžad Galijašević, the mayor of Bihać, visited today together with activists of the Red Cross Bihać, Halid and his mother Sabina. Galijašević said that the city administration will be at the disposal of the Čović family to overcome this difficult period as easily as possible, reports the news agency Patria.

- As soon as I heard about this unfortunate event, we reacted and here we provided one-time assistance for Sabina and Halid, as well as packages with food items and hygiene products, and we will also provide firewood. I am shocked by this event and indeed it is time for all of us together to take even more rigorous measures against stray dogs, but also against owners who irresponsibly keep dogs that are potentially dangerous for citizens.

The City of Bihać has been fighting against stray dogs for years through our shelter and the Veterinary Station Bihać. We also have a problem with the law, which is rigorous and has standards for the EU, not for BiH, and that is why we must strengthen measures and I have ordered our competent services to intensify the action of removing dogs from the streets because this has exceeded all measures. Also, we will ask the authorities to punish dog owners who keep them irresponsibly - said Galijašević.
