Begović: Excellent decision that Sušić stays, we must go to the European Championship to confirm our quality

Asmir Begović, goalkeeper of Stoke City and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, has finished his annual vacation and, as he said in an interview with the Patria news agency, preparations in Stoke begin next week and for now he remains in the Premier League, although it was even written that Real Madrid was interested in the services of our excellent goalkeeper.

 - I am staying in England. I had no contact with anyone else. I am satisfied with that. Preparations for me start next week and I look forward to the new season and we aim to make a bigger step forward this year – says Begović.

As he further says, the emotions from Brazil have gradually subsided, but there is still a part of sadness due to the fact that we did not pass the group. Begović sees the progress on the FIFA ranking list as an incentive for even better games and victories.

- It is important to win every match precisely because of the FIFA list. In Brazil, the goal was to advance, we did not achieve that, but achieving the first victory at the World Cup and scoring the first goals means a lot. We left a good impression on the world football public, so there is a lot of positive that happened in Brazil. In the end, we want to progress even further. 19th place is excellent, but we want to progress even more – added Begović.

The best goalkeeper in Bosnia and Herzegovina does not hide his satisfaction that coach Safet Sušić will lead the team through the qualifications for the European Championship.

- We have progressed a lot with coach Sušić at the helm and I think it is good that he remains on our bench. We can progress even more because we have good players. We must qualify for the European Championship and prove our quality. The decision for Sušić to stay is good and I see no problems. All players are satisfied and we can't wait for the start of the qualifications to be together, play together and win – explained Begović.

The native of Trebinje this year spoke about the genocide and events in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period from 1992 to 1995, because representatives of CIVIC in Stoke organized a mass on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

- Srebrenica is a big and the saddest moment in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In England, I joined the ceremony through which respect was shown to all victims and their families. I know that July 11 is a difficult day for all BiH citizens and if we can give any support to help in those moments, I am here and I always will be – emphasized Begović, who was not in our country during the war, but as he says, he learns, reads and talks to people who went through hell.

- Many people and my friends in England hear about Srebrenica and ask about it, they want to know what happened in Srebrenica, they read on the internet, watch movies, YouTube. But, I always tell them we can read and talk, but no one can feel the horrors of Srebrenica who was not there – added Begović.
