Begić: I regret I wasn't a candidate for the Constitutional Court of BiH, because if I were - I would have gone all the way to Strasbourg

(Patria) - A judge of the Constitutional Court of BiH was elected in an unconstitutional manner, said DF MP in the BiH Parliament and constitutional law professor Zlatan Begić last night as a guest on Hayat Television's show "7 plus", commenting on the election of Marin Vukoja as the new judge of the Constitutional Court of BiH.

Begić stated that, in addition to the Constitution stipulating that the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament elects the judge or judges of the Constitutional Court, the constitutional principle of equal access to public office for all candidates who meet the conditions prescribed by the Constitution or law should also be taken into account.

This means, Begić explained, that any candidate who meets the conditions cannot be prevented from being considered by the electing body, in this case, the House of Representatives.

- We had, therefore, a Commission that the Constitution does not recognize at all, a violation of the Rules of Procedure, changes in the composition of the Commission, which served as a vent to allow only one, i.e., a suitable candidate.

Now I regret that I was not a candidate, because if I were - I would have gone all the way to Strasbourg and proven that this entire process was carried out in an unconstitutional manner - Begić emphasized.

He questioned why the Trojka insisted so much on electing Marin Vukoja and what their interest was in it?

- I cannot help but wonder why the Trojka insisted so much on shaping the composition of the Constitutional Court in the context of their connection with drug cartels.

It should not be forgotten that the Constitutional Court is the supreme judicial instance of this country based on appellate jurisdiction and in individual cases pending before regular courts.

Therefore, whether in this way, and I believe we will soon have the opportunity to see that, certain members of the Trojka, who were very insistent on appointing Marin Vukoju to this position, also had a direct personal interest - stated Begić.

He added that it seemed to him that everyone had their own interest in this appointment - both the HDZ and the members of the Trojka, and that their love for the HDZ was more than evident.
